9460-20 – Solex Carburetor
NOTE: If you have a Carter Carb, there is an adapter (9142) so you can use the Solex since Carter is hard to come by – we do not carry them.

SOLEX H-30/31 PICT REPLACEMENT CARB INSTRUCTIONS:
1.) Remove old carburetor, carburetor to governor linkage, and choke cable. Save the air cleaner base and top.
2.) Check Governor oil level and condition. Also inspect spring and throttle linage for binding or excessive wear.
3.) Install new carburetor and linkage, use new hardware and gaskets provided.
4.) On electric start models, attach the yellow wire (from the carburetor solenoid) to the “+” positive side of the coil.
Rope start models have a disabled solenoid.
5.) Attach choke cable to instrument panel and then attach to carburetor.
Rope start models come with choke bracket and sheet metal screws.
6.) Adjust choke cable, push the chock cable all the way in, then hold the choke butterfly open and tighten the lock nut, and then tighten the cable housing lock. Check the setting by pulling out choke knob. The choke butterfly should be closed completely. Fine tune adjustment by moving the cable housing in or out. After the choke is adjusted properly, clip off excess wire at lock nut.
7.) Install air cleaner with clean, oiled filter element.
8.) See Governor Adjusting Instructions (see part number 9473 or your manual).
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
This type of carburetor has a slightly different adjustment procedure than the traditional carburetors, for the adjustment of idle and mixture control, in that at idle the throttle butterfly should be almost completely closed.
1.) Adjust screw “1” (clockwise) in until it is seated.
2.) The initial adjustment of mixture screw “2” is 3-1/2 turns out (counterclockwise) from the seated position.
3.) Run engine until the engine is warmed up.
4.) From the initial setting, turn screw “2” counterclockwise until RPM stops increasing.
5.) If idle speed is too low, or too high, re-adjust speed at the governor, not at the carburetor.
