GOVERNOR ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS
(refer to illustration in image gallery for this part)
Mount the governor on the engine. Tighten the belt and connect the linkage from the throttle lever to the governor and from the governor to the carburetor. NOTE: CHECK THE GOVERNOR OIL LEVEL.
ADJUST THE GOVERNOR AS FOLLOWS – ENGINE NOT RUNNING
1.) Loosen the lock bolt (A) on the governor throttle lever (B).
2.) Place engine throttle lever (C) as far to the left as it will go (full throttle position).
3.) Adjust eye bolt (H) until spring lever (G) Is rotated counter-clockwise as far as it will go. Then, pull the GOVERNOR throttle lever (B) toward the governor pulley as far as it can be pulled and tighten the lock bolt (A)/
The carburetor should be in full throttle position.
4.) Move the engine throttle lever (C) to idle (far right).
5.) Loosen the eye bolt (H) until the governor throttle lever and the carburetor are at idle and the spring is just barely loose. Tighten the eye bolt lock nuts.
ADJUST THE GOVERNOR AS FOLLOWS – ENGINE RUNNING
1.) Start the engine. CAUTION: Be prepared to shut the engine down quickly if the engine tries to overspeed. If the engine does try to overspeed, recheck the spring tension on the speed change lever (F). (See step 5 above.) Be sure that the carburetor linkage is coming all the way to idle.
2.) With the engine running, advance the engine throttle lever (C) until the lower end of the engine throttle lever is vertical. Adjust the engine speed to 2200 RPM by tightening or loosening the eye bolt (H) to increase or decrease spring tension. Tighten the eye bolt lock nuts.
3.) Advance the engine throttle lever to full throttle. Adjust the engine speed to 2500 RPM using the set screw (E).
4.) Retard the engine throttle lever to idle and adjust the engine speed to 1000 RPM using the set screw (D).
NOTE: Due to individual differences in governor construction, it may not be possible to adjust the engine speed down to 1000 RPM. A setting for 1000 to 1500 RPM is acceptable.
5.) Shut down engine.
